Covid vaccine, Las Vegas testing sites take vacation

The Southern Nevada Health District is making a final push to get residents vaccinated against COVID-19 before the holidays with a “Tests before Turkey, vaccination before holidays” clinic on Monday.

The event at Futuro Academy, 920 N. Lamb Blvd. in Las Vegas, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. will offer people the option of getting a COVID-19 and flu shot or COVID-19 test before the holidays.

“This will be our second holiday season during the COVID-19 pandemic. What is different this year is that we have vaccines widely available throughout our community, ”said Dr Fermin Leguen, district health officer. “We encourage people in southern Nevada to get tested before traveling or, better yet, get vaccinated. There is plenty of time to get the COVID and flu shot before you go on vacation. “

Appointments are recommended for testing and vaccinations at the event, but walk-in visits will be accepted.

COVID-19 vaccines are available for anyone aged 5 years and older, influenza vaccines will be available for anyone aged six months and older. The COVID-19 test will be available for the whole family. To make an appointment, visit

In addition, parents can now make an appointment for their children aged 5 to 11 for any location of the COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the health district. As of November 16, more than 9,000 children aged 5 to 11 had received their initial dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The CDC recommends testing one to three days before travel for anyone who is not fully vaccinated. Additionally, the COVID-19 test is recommended for anyone who has not been vaccinated, shows symptoms of COVID-19, or has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. People who show symptoms should not travel, according to the CDC. For more information, visit the CDC Holiday Celebrations page.
