FCCC reviews bread and cookie prices – FBC News

Bread and biscuit prices are expected to rise soon.

Following an increase in the world price of wheat due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, local manufacturers filed applications with the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission for further increases in the prices of bread and biscuits .

Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission chief executive Joel Abraham said the methodology employed by the FCCC means bread prices have remained the same since 2011, with long loaves costing 0.71 cents.

“We have not given up hope and are doing everything we can to tackle this significant issue of rising prices. We are working with stakeholders across Fiji (manufacturers, importers, wholesalers and retailers) to examine the viability of alternative cost options and supply chains. »

He says the FCCC is studying ways to limit the drastic price increase to protect consumers, without harming businesses.
