Popular air purifiers

Advantages:

  • Finished second in three categories

  • Accommodates up to 403 square feet of space

  • Affordable compared to other air purifiers

The inconvenients:

  • Good as it is, it can’t match the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

The Levoit Core 400S ranks high in our unbiased reviews and is a good choice for those who need to purify the air in a room of 403 square feet or less. It uses a nylon pre-filter, an H13 True HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter. These filters should last between six and 12 months. Filters can be replaced for $50.

The Core 400S has four fan speeds and weighs 11 pounds, putting it on the lowest weight of the air purifiers we reviewed. The Levoit Core 400S itself costs $219.99, making it the second cheapest air purifier.

Note that if your room is larger than 403 square feet, the Levoit Core 400S won’t measure up. The noise level of the device is about average for other air purifiers, which is something to consider if you are particularly sensitive to noise.

Levoit Core 400S

The Levoit Core 400S air purifier costs $219.99. That’s less than all but one air purifier in our overall rating. Each genuine 3-stage True HEPA filter costs $50 and lasts six to 12 months. Compared to the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH, the Levoit Core 400S is a lower initial investment and less expensive to maintain.

The Levoit Core uses three filters to purify the air. A pre-filter captures dust, lint, hair, fibers, and pet hair, while an H13 True HEPA filter captures bacteria, mold, pollen, viruses, and pet dander.

The HEPA filter features HEPASmart technology. According to Levoit, HEPASmart technology improves the filter used in this air purifier, allowing it to capture 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns and 99.9% of airborne particles with a size of 0.1 micron. The company also claims that this purifier can filter out 99.99% of viruses and bacteria.

The activated carbon filter is equipped with the company’s exclusive ARC formula. According to Levoit, its ARC formula extends the life of the filter by “chemically breaking down” particles that are trapped in the filter, thereby reducing secondary pollution. It is designed to capture smoke, fumes, volatile organic compounds, pet odors and cooking odors.

The Levoit Core 400S gets high marks and is a good choice for many people. But other options might make more sense for some buyers. Comparing the Core 400S to some of its top competitors can help you better understand if this is the right air purifier for you.

The Levoit Core 400S comes with a price tag of $219.99, which makes it $10 cheaper than the Coway Airmega 200M. The Airmega 200M has an advantage: it offers five fan speeds, compared to four for the Core 400S.
