Sony has released a bumper crop of great PS Plus games for July, headlining Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Treyarch’s 2018 first-person shooter is available to download for free on PS4 and PS5 starting July 6. The classic franchise-centric multiplayer entry will be available for download until August 2 for PlayStation Plus members.
The FPS is joined by the newest WWE 2K Battlegrounds game on PS4 and PS5, while the PS5 version of A Plague Tale: Innocence is also among the titles available this month. Sony is also keeping Sega’s Virtual Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown available for a second month, if you haven’t downloaded it yet.
Let’s dig a little deeper into this month’s offers;
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
There are three multiplayer modes to battle here, including the beloved Call of Duty Zombies experience. There’s also the battle royale-inspired Blackout mode that would inspire the standalone game Warzone.
Our review called it a “bold reinvention of a series in desperate need of it,” praising the “AAA implementation of a battle royale” as “a fascinating thing to play.”
WWE 2K Battlegrounds
The cartoonish arcade-style wrestling action is a far cry from the lifelike WWE 2K sims of the past. There is a local and online multiplayer mode as well as a new story mode. Classic characters like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin take on current WWE Superstars, while special match types like Steel Cage and Royal Rumble are also available.
A story of plague: innocence
The new PS5 (only) version of this game arrives on PS Plus promising native 4K resolution with a 60FPS gameplay lens.
In one blog post, Sony explains: “Follow the story of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, on a heartbreaking journey through history’s darkest hours. Hunted by the soldiers of the Inquisition and surrounded by swarms of unstoppable rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive through thick and thin, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal and ruthless world.
Last month’s games, Star Wars: Squadrons and Operation: Tango, are available until July 5
