What is the film about?
Akshay (Ashish) is an engineering student from LIT College, while Kavya (Anupama Parameshwaran) is a doctor from BMC Medical College. How do the two fall in love?
The film’s basic plot is the college war over it and where it ends. It is presented in a musical style with lots of singing and dancing.
Ashish, Dil Raju’s nephew, makes his debut with Rowdy Boys. He suits the role of the boy next door and looks good on screen. He also clearly put in the effort to make it work. It is in the dances that he impresses the most during the first outing. If the same action is put in other aspects and more polished in personality, Ashish can shine in his upcoming career.
Harsha Konuganti of Husharu fame leads Rowdy Boys. His first film, too, belonged to the same space but was made on a moderate scale. Here he has great support and a much larger canvas.
The opening sequence of the two college gangs clashing makes Rowdy Boys seem like a “Baahubali” among college stories. However, this impression disappears as we progress to the more common procedures.
The entire first half can be condensed into a singular plot development that leads into the interval. Not much happens except for students from two rival colleges competing against each other. And when it happens seriously, we arrive at the interval.
In between we have the typical world-building scenes involving the hero’s family and friends. This is where Rowdy Boys fails. The writing and the way it’s delivered makes the whole thing bland. It was here that Harsha Konuganti’s debut, Husharu, succeeded. There was humor that worked for him even though story-wise he had nothing new to offer.
The second half takes a more dramatic turn with a new angle thrown between the leading pair. Even this segment will remind many of recent past films. It still wouldn’t have mattered if there had been good writing and actors to get things done.
The good thing, however, is compared to the first half; the second hour feels decent, though that’s thanks to the predictable drama on offer. Well, as the saying goes, something is better than nothing?
The climax goes further north into predictable territory with some not-so-unexpected twists. You can see them coming for miles.
All in all, Rowdy Boys offers a great idea to have a youthful, college musical drama. The problem is the bland execution. This makes viewing boring and tiring.
Anupama Parameshwaran playing the lead role looks a lot skinny. She suits the role and easily stands out among the crowd as a performer. These are typical emotions of romantic dramas, and she did it well. It’s another thing, however, that she doesn’t have much to do in the first place.
Vikram is poorly cast. He lacks intensity for the role. But, more than the act, the look comes into play first, as he looks far too young and weak for the role. Karthik Ratnam agrees to play a senior. It is written inconsistently and therefore has no impact. Srikanth Iyenger is fine as a father. Tej Kurapati and Komalee Prasad are decent at best. The rest of the cast includes newcomers and isn’t that impressive.
Music and other departments?
Devi Sri Prasad has the most critical job at hand for Rowdy Boys. This is because the film is planned as a musical for young people. He did his part by delivering a decent song, and the background which is good, but in part. Three cinematographers, Madhie, Vijay Chakravarthi and Guhan, manage the work due to delays. However, the visuals flow seamlessly and look awe-inspiring. Editing by Madhu is correct. Some parts had to be cut for a crisper narrative. The writing is mostly bland except for a few punches here and there.
Great production values
The change in character and attitude of the hero in the second hour could have been avoided. Or else it should have been portrayed that way from the start. Either would make a big difference.

Rowdy Boys movie review by Siddartha Toleti
Rowdy Boys cast as a youthful, collage-based musical drama fails to achieve its intended purpose. Mirchi9 review coming soon.
– After some drama and live-action struggles, the film heads towards the climax.
– Start of the second half for the Rowdy Boys. Akshay and Kavya are in a relationship.
First semester report:
The first half of Rowdy Boys is about two opposing sides fighting over a girl. There is nothing else. Ashish impresses in the dance department. Some songs are impressive with beautiful choreography. The second half holds the key to seeing if there is something in the movie or not.
— Anupama dances well in the song ‘Brindvanam’, it’s a well choreographed number and she really enjoys it.
– Newbie Ashish put a lot of effort into the dances which are seen in the song ‘Date Night’. We have to see what else he has to impress in the rest of the movie.
– Engineering student Akshay (Ashish) is in love with medical student Kavya (Anupama Parameswaran).
— Barely a few scenes into the film, the hero Ashish flaunts his shirtless body!
– The Rowdy Boys show started with a middle school ragging scene. A simple introduction for the Ashish beginner.
Rowdy Boys Review, US Premier updates will begin shortly. Stay tuned.
Rowdy Boys is the new production of Sri Venkateshwara Creations. It features Ashish, nephew of Dil Raju, as the hero. Anupama Parameswaran is the female lead opposite him. The college campus drama hits the big screens on January 14, 2022.
Dil Raju has been fascinated with young college dramas and teen romances since the beginning. Not only does he make them periodically on his production, but he has supported many such films as a distributor. This is because when such films strike a chord with the target audience, they have huge success at the box office.
Rowdy Boys is an attempt on the lines of Dil Raju’s Prema Desam and Happy Days. It has Sree Harsha Konuganti as its director. He is the person behind Husharu’s surprise hit that returned in 2018.
Rowdy Boys has been postponed several times, and it finally arrives in theaters on January 14th. No one could have asked for a better time than this. If the movie clicks with audiences, it could last a long time in the weeks to come, no matter how busy.
Besides the production house, Devi Sri Prasad is another big name attached to the film. His songs and background music will play a vital role in the success of the film.
